While the specific college dorm room essentials can vary depending on personal preferences and the rules of your particular dorm, here are some common items (and my personal recommendations) that are often considered essential for a comfortable and functional dorm room:
Bedding: Extra-long twin sheets, pillowcases, comforter, and mattress pad (check the size requirements of your dorm bed).
Desk lamp: A task lamp with adjustable brightness will come in handy for late-night studying. Check out this super sleek desk lamp and it also allows you to charge other electronics.
Desk organizer: Keep your study area neat and organized with a desk organizer that can hold pens, stationery, and other supplies. Check out this gorgeous desk organizer that will ascetically spruce up any workspace!
Power strips and extension cords: Dorm rooms often have limited outlets, so having a power strip or extension cords can be helpful for charging multiple devices.
Mini refrigerator: A small fridge allows you to store snacks, beverages, and leftovers in your room, especially if the dorm doesn't provide one. I wish I had one of these portable mini fridges when I was in college!
Microwave or toaster oven: Check the rules of your dorm regarding cooking appliances, but having a small microwave or toaster oven can be convenient for heating up food. I personally am a coffee lover, so this mini coffee machine is a total must have!
Storage solutions: Utilize storage bins, under-bed storage containers, or hanging organizers to maximize your space and keep things tidy. Check out these items here!
Shower caddy: A portable shower caddy is essential for carrying your toiletries to and from the communal bathroom. I personally love this mesh shower caddy that can hold everything!
Towels and bathrobe: Have a set of towels and a bathrobe specifically for use in the dormitory's shared bathrooms.
Noise-canceling headphones: Great for blocking out distractions when studying or trying to get some rest. Check out these sleek and affordable Soundcore Anker Life Q20 wireless headphones.
Study supplies: Stock up on notebooks, pens, highlighters, sticky notes, and any other supplies you'll need for your classes.
Laundry supplies: Laundry detergent, dryer sheets, laundry bag, and hangers to keep your clothes clean and organized. I love this all in-one laundry backpack sack, with extra pockets to carry your detergent and softener.
Personal care items: Toiletries, shower shoes, a first aid kit, and any other personal care products you use regularly. Check out these must have shower slippers.
Posters and decorations: Add some personal touches to your room with posters, photos, or decorative items to make it feel homier. Check out this bedside shelf- This is a must have!
Cleaning supplies: Basic cleaning supplies like disinfectant wipes, paper towels, and a small broom or vacuum cleaner for maintaining cleanliness. Nobody likes a messy roommate!
Remember to consult your dorm's guidelines and any restrictions they may have on certain items to ensure you comply with their rules.
